OTHER INFORMATION
Stephen was one of six children from his father's first marriage and when his father remarried he had a further six step brothers and sisters. Stephen moved a great deal and children were born in Essex and Suffolk, but they finally settled at 6 Reeds Buildings, Bury St Edmunds. However the marriage was not a happy one and often, according to the Electoral Register, he was not present at the family home. On 3rd April 1911 Stephen appeared in court in Bury St Edmunds for failing to maintain his two youngest children, for which he had a court order issued on 20th October 1910. Naomi said that he was a good man except when he took to drink. He was sentenced to hard labour for one month. It appears that the children did not have a great deal to do with him, indeed Naomi was down as next of kin on all the war records - no mention of Stephen. at the time of his death he was living at 34 Wraby Street, Brigg - the workhouse. He is buried in Brigg cemetery.
